Oil executives flood Smith’s coffers

As we predicted, Jim Smith has opened the fund-raising spigot and is letting the dollars pour into his campaign.
And you shouldn’t be surprised by his biggest donors:
- Big-time oil and energy executives
- Political and special interest groups
For the month of June, we raised $61,400, which is about what we’ve averaged for the previous two months.
Smith, however, more than doubled our efforts with $142,450 in donations. Of that sum, nearly $40,000 came from oil executives and nearly $20,000 came from special interest and political groups.
In a time of $4-per-gallon of gas, perhaps Smith’s financial backers should think more about finding ways to cut the cost of gasoline for the consumer than backing a Supreme Court justice who has, for more than a couple of these donors, ruled on their behalf.
If you want to tell Jim Smith that you’re tired of corporate America buying our courtrooms, then make a donation to Kitch’s campaign and help us bring balance to the Mississippi Supreme Court in November.
